Our Story

Only a year after completing his butchering apprenticeship, Rob and his newly wed wife Rose, purchased their first business in Taroona, Hobart, in 1984. Moving with their family to Launceston, Northern Tasmania, they refurbished a closed butcher shop and established the award winning, Beef Wellington. They relocated to a larger location within a shopping center, but kept the strong name and well established reputation. In 2005 there was a swapping of roles with one of his employees and Rob worked under the new management.

After winning the National Meat Innovations Award with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), Rob spent some time consulting and had 12 months traveling across Australia representing what was to become Casalinga. He ran a series of workshops hosted by MLA, which brought together meat devotees, sharing industry goals, innovative techniques and flavoring ideas.

This broader experience inspired Rob and Rose to go back into business, opening the smaller operation in Launceston’s CBD, which is where Casalinga remains today.
